At Directi, Mentorship is an important element of induction for any new joinee. Each new joinee is formally assigned a Mentor within one of our intranet applications. This document describes what we expect from a mentor-mentee relationship at Directi
Who is selected as a Mentor
Any individual who has spent over 6 months to an year in the organization can be a mentor. Typically for a new joinee, a mentor is selected from any of his existing peers ideally from within his/her team. The Manager of the new joinee assists in deciding who a suitable mentor can be.
Description
A mentor serves as the go-to-guy and buddy of the mentee. Here are some of the aspects of the mentor-mentee relationship -
- HR should inform the Mentor, the joining date of the mentee in advance
- A mentor should spend as much time with the mentee as possible in the initial stages. Mentors should ideally have their lunch breaks with the mentee, possibly with others from the team
- Mentors will regularly introduce the mentee to others within the company and assist in breaking the ice

- Mentors will typically have a list of links from our Knowledge Repository and a compendium of resources that the mentee should go through to acquaint the mentee with our organization, processes, tools, software, documents etc
- Mentors should exclusively carve out a few hours during the first month (say once every week) to sit with your mentee for a while and have a general dialogue to answer any queries he/she may have, clarify their role etc
- This mentor-mentee relationship should continue for about 6 months or more as required
- Mentees should approach mentors for ANY queries they have concerning anything - personal or professional
Purpose
- The mentor-mentee relationship is meant to speed up the induction process and reduce the timespan within which a new joinee becomes productive at Directi
- A mentor-mentee relationship augments a manager-reportee relationship by providing peer-to-peer assistance to new joinees
